Copyright and Performing Rights
General
All music openly published on this site, whether in the form of
an MP3 file or a Midi file, was composed by someone who died
more than 70 years ago.
So, as far as I know, it can be copied or performed freely
within the UK and in other countries with similar rules.
I have done a lot of work to create, edit and make available these
files, notably in the sequencing.
That work is my intellectual property, and is subject to copyright
in the UK, and elsewhere [see the notice below].
However, I am happy for you to use it for any private purpose.
Some other music mentioned on this site is still covered by the
composer's copyright and perhaps other rights.
It's listed here because some collections were circulated
privately, and I thought it right to make available as much as
I could of the contents of those collections.
Where music is restricted for this reason, that fact is
noted on all relevant pages.
As the copyright expires, that music will spring into life!
Most sequencing has been done from ancient copies of the
music in my collection.
Fairly often, I have used more recent copies for comparison
purposes and in order to make editorial judgements.
I have tried to note where this has happened in the descriptions
of the pieces.
I have mostly taken my lead from the descriptions,
including limitations, of the music at
IMSLP,
the International Music Score Library Project.

may not work well, or even at all, on your computer, tablet, smartphone
