Contrary to possible supposition, La Victoire is not a generic reference
to Victory but is the royal princess
La Victoire de France, daughter of Louis XV.
She is the dedicatee of book 2 of Duphly's Pieces de Clavecin,
published in 1748, of which this is the first piece.
She survived the Revolution by escaping to Italy. This piece is marked Vif, and consists of two repeated sections; the repeats don't seem to add much, as the first time round is already heavily ornamented, so I have ignored them. Sequenced mostly in 1996 from a library copy. I have used a 4' stop and a buff stop to give variety. | |||
