Wiki entry: Daniel Godfrey
International Music Score Library Project [IMSLP] entry: Daniel Godfrey
Daniel Godfrey (1831-1903) was perhaps the best-known of a large family of composers, especially for military band. His father and brothers became bandmasters of an assortment of bands. Daniel was the first bandmaster of the Grenadier Guards, holding the post until 1896, five years past normal retirement age. He died in Beeston (Nottingham); so his birth year and death place have a (rather distant!) association with our house!

| Piano version of a polka played by the bands of the Coldstream and Grenadier Guards, also by the Bands of the German and Danish Armies and at the Promenade Concerts Covent Garden, Crystal Palace, Alexandra Palace, and the Royal Aquarium. | |||
| Merry Bells Polka | MIDI | piano Xmas2019 | |
| Piano version of a polka performed by the band of the Grenadier Guards. The piece has an introduction which I have re-scored from piano to celeste to suggest the bells; then there is a polka with a trio; the bells return near the end of the piece. Very Christmassy! | |||

| Try also this piece, subtitled Danse de Godfrey, a transcription and re-working for piano of one of Godfrey's most popular pieces by Eugene Ketterer. Much more detail under Ketterer, qv. | |||
