John Kinross [1848-90] is virtually unknown. IMSLP has one piece [not this one!] and his dates; he has no Wiki entry. He seems to have been primarily a teacher.

	This Chant du Soir is subtitled Impromptu pour Piano, and is Kinross's Op. 4. No. 1. It is marked Moderato con espressione, and MM 58 in dotted crotchets. It is dedicated to his pupil, Miss M. A. S. Kirkland. Sequenced in 2024 from an undated copy in my collection, published by Weekes and Co. of London. The very simple melody has a gentle rocking nature.
