Walter Macfarren [1826-1905] was an English pianist and composer, long associated with the RAM, and a member of a distinguished musical family.

	This Toccata in B flat is number 7 of Macfarrens' second set of piano studies, published by Edwin Ashdown. The instruction is Allegro assai, at a speed of 144 beats/minute. Somewhat unusually, the RH has a 12/8 time signature, and the LH 4/4. MIDI can't cope with that! Sequenced in 2022 from a copy in my collection. The front cover has a facsimile [presumably!] of WM's signature in purple ink. The piece is dedicated to A. J. Hipkins [1826-1903], who started with Broadwood as a piano tuner, and became well-known as an authority on older instruments.
