Wiki entry: Ignacy Jan Paderewski
International Music Score Library Project [IMSLP] entry: Ignacy Jan Paderewski
Ignacy Jan Paderewski [1860-1941] was a Polish pianist and statesman. In his time, he achieved the same sort of fame as a performer as Liszt and Paganini. He used that fame to advocate independence for Poland, especially during WW1; after the war, he was invited to become Prime Minister, but resigned after elections. He continued to represent Poland internationally. The film Moonlight Sonata depicts his career. In addition to his playing and compositions, he was a notable editor, being responsible for the definitive edition of Chopin's works.

This piece is the first of six Humoresques de Concert in Paderewski's
Op. 14, composed in 1887-88. The first three are described as Antique,
the other three as Moderne. Only this minuet, marked Allegretto
and non legato, is still regularly heard. Sequenced in 2018 from the edition published by Edwin Ashdown, Ltd., London. There is no indication of the editor, but there is a footnote: N.B. The various graces and marks of expression in brackets are here written out according to the composer's rendering. | |||
